Coming To England, 22nd October 2024

Today, our Year 6 pupils had the fantastic opportunity to visit the MAST Mayflower Studios in Southampton to see Coming to England, a powerful stage adaptation of Baroness Floella Benjamin’s inspiring memoir. The play tells the story of young Floella’s journey from Trinidad to the UK in the Windrush era and her challenges adjusting to life in a new country, including the racism and hardships she faced. It’s a story of resilience, hope, and the importance of staying true to oneself.

The children were captivated from start to finish. The vibrant performances, heartfelt storytelling, and the play’s timely themes of identity and belonging resonated deeply with them. After the show, many of the students were buzzing with excitement, sharing their favourite moments and reflecting on the powerful messages they took away.

It was a truly enriching experience for all, reinforcing the importance of empathy, understanding, and celebrating diversity. We’re certain this day will remain a lasting memory for everyone!

Osmington 2024-Day 5 (20th September 2024)

The children’s final morning of activities at Osmington Bay involved more harnesses as they climbed up the climbing wall today. Then this was followed by rifle shooting, truly going out with a bang.

Throughout this trip, they have shown remarkable resilience, empathy, and bravery, tackling new challenges and embracing experiences that have pushed them out of their comfort zones. The children have demonstrated a level of independence that will serve them well as they move on to secondary school. They have truly impressed us with their determination, kindness, and growth over the course of the week.

Osmington 2024-Day 4 (19th September 2024)

Today the children started their final full day of activities with some awesome abseiling, followed by some map reading and orienteering.

Following the abseiling, the children enjoyed more rope activities, with the hotly anticipated Giant Swing.

Osmington 2024-Day 3 (18th September 2024)

This morning the children have enjoyed an energetic game of Aeroball (netball on trampolines) and a fun glide on the zip wire.

This afternoon it was back down to Portland for some dragon boat racing, where green team won.

This evening the children have enjoyed a traditional song and dance around the campfire.

Osmington 2024-Day 2 (17th September 2024)

The children slept really well and have enjoyed a nice cooked breakfast before a morning of Archery Tag and the Trapeze.

Following a break for lunch the children set off for their afternoons activities at National Sailing Centre, Portland. Here they had to build a seaworthy raft and then sail it, which they all successfully achieved, however jumping off was much more fun!

Osmington 2024-Day 1 (16th October 2024)

After a great coach journey down, the children have enjoyed a day of team building on the beach and with the PGL leaders this evening. The children ate well at dinner time and have settled down for a good nights sleep ready for their first full day of activities tomorrow.

Year 6 Leavers 2024

Our prayer to our Year 6 leavers 2024, as they leave us for the next chapter in their education adventure:

Dear God,

We come to you with open hearts and minds,

Thankful for the love and kindness you show us every day.

Help us to reflect this love in all we do,

To be kind to our friends, family, and everyone we meet.

Grant us the strength to be leaders,

To inspire others with our actions and words,

And to make a positive difference in our schools, communities, and the world.

Show us how to stand up for what is right,

To be brave and compassionate in times of need,

And to use our unique gifts to help those around us.

May we always remember that small acts of kindness

Can grow into great waves of change,

And that each of us has the power

To make the world a better place through our leadership.

Guide us, dear Lord, as we strive to follow your example,

To be beacons of love and kindness,

And to lead with integrity, wisdom, and grace.

Amen.

Forest walk

On Friday, 7th June, the Year 6 children showcased their strength and resilience by completing a challenging 10km walk around Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary. The walk not only tested their physical endurance but also provided them with an opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the sanctuary, fostering a sense of perseverance and teamwork.

Team Building with AFCB

On Wednesday, 26th June, the education team from AFC Bournemouth visited the school to conduct a football-based team-building session. This engaging activity helped the children develop their collaboration and communication skills through various football drills and games, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and mutual support in achieving common goals.

Year 6 Tank Museum

11th June 2024

Our trip to The Tank Museum at Bovington was a memorable and educational experience. The children had the opportunity to explore exhibits showcasing tanks from the last 100 years, gaining insights into their development and historical significance. Additionally, they attended an interactive talk about life in Britain during World War 2, which provided a vivid picture of the home front and wartime society. Another highlight was a session on conscription and life in the trenches during World War 1, offering a poignant understanding of the soldiers’ experiences. Overall, the visit was enriching, combining hands-on learning with engaging historical presentations.
